It is with pleasure our Elementary community welcomes new and returning families to the 2024-2025 school year at Rabat American School!
In the Elementary School, our student-centered approach is at the heart of our mission, dedicated to:
- engaging students in real-world learning opportunities
- empowering learners to take action
- fostering belonging and personal growth
We are committed to preparing our students with a strong foundation to be leaders of their own learning and global citizens.
At Rabat American School, the collaboration between our dedicated staff, engaged parents, and curious students come together to create a vibrant, unique, and thriving community. In the Elementary division, both students and adults are RAS ROCK Stars, consistently modeling respect, responsibility, open-mindedness, courage, kindness, and a commitment to safety.
Our learner-centered approach is grounded in a standards-based curriculum, blending structured and inquiry-based methods of teaching and learning. We provide a robust experience in the core curricula of English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and social-emotional learning. RAS educators purposefully plan for, implement, and assess standards-based instruction to ensure each child’s individual growth, focusing on the whole child’s development.
The arts and physical activity are also foundational elements of learning at RAS. Children learn from content-area specialists, developing skills in music, art, and physical education. Although English is the primary language of instruction, learners actively participate in French and Arabic classes throughout the week, with the addition of Moroccan studies to bring appreciation and awareness to the culture and country in which we live. Students engage with our learning commons to grow their love for reading, explore through the Maker Space, and enhance their digital literacy skills.
We are committed to providing our students with opportunities to develop and reflect on their learning, and consistently strive to score (SCOR) in enhancing their expert learner skills of self-regulation, collaboration, organization, and reflection. No matter the content, our students remain at the center of the learning experience, enjoying the delight of childhood.
Through collaboration and communication, the RAS community is stronger, growing a positive, inspiring learning environment where we thrive together. I look forward to our partnership this year.
Kind regards,
Tara Munroe

We integrate workshop and inquiry-based methodologies to foster effective teaching and learning. Our curriculum offers comprehensive instruction in English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and social-emotional learning, ensuring each child’s growth through purposeful planning, implementation, and assessment of standards.
Emphasizing a holistic approach, RAS prioritizes the arts and physical activity as integral components of education. Specialist educators guide students in music, art, and physical education, enriching their skills and experiences. While English serves as the primary language of instruction, students actively engage in French and Arabic classes weekly, complemented by Moroccan studies to deepen cultural understanding.
The elementary community is dedicated to nurturing essential skills such as self-regulation, collaboration, organization, and reflection, supporting every child’s development comprehensively.
Curriculum Guides
Our Elementary School grade-level guides offer a detailed exploration of the curriculum, reflecting our commitment to student-centered instruction and thoughtful programmatic choices.
Language Arts
Our language arts program aims to equip learners with essential tools for academic advancement, critical thinking, problem-solving, and lifelong learning enjoyment. Teachers in grades K-5 employ Reader's and Writer's Workshops as key methods within a balanced literacy framework. This comprehensive approach includes Shared Reading, Reading to Self, Reading Aloud, Interactive Writing, and Word Study, all aligned with the AERO Standards for English Language Arts.
Mathematics
Our math program aims to empower students for continuous success in mathematics across grades. Through research-based teaching methods, visual models, and mathematical practices, we foster both fundamental skills and conceptual comprehension, ultimately enhancing students' confidence and proficiency in the subject.
Science
Our science program fosters an appreciation for scientific wonders while equipping students with essential knowledge in science and engineering. Our curriculum emphasizes critical evaluation of scientific and technological information, structured around three key dimensions: science and engineering practices, crosscutting concepts linking diverse scientific disciplines and engineering principles, and core ideas spanning physical sciences, life sciences, earth and space sciences, as well as engineering, technology, and applications of science.
Social Studies
Our social studies program lays a strong groundwork of knowledge, concepts, and skills essential for exploring the complexities of life and our world. Emphasizing personal and civic duties, our curriculum promotes respect for cultural and environmental diversity, and underscores the interconnected nature of our global community.
World Languages
Our world languages program serves a dual purpose: for learners acquiring French and Arabic as foreign languages, the goal is to progressively attain fluency. Meanwhile, for students already fluent in French and/or Arabic, the program aims to further enhance their language proficiency.
Music
Our music program aims to nurture both the budding musician and the overall development of each learner. Music offers a distinct avenue for communication, allowing children to explore, understand, and articulate thoughts and emotions about themselves, their world, and their culture.
Art
Our art program aims to nurture artistic expression, critical thinking, and digital literacy skills among young learners, preparing them to thrive in a technology-driven society while upholding traditional artistic values. This approach encourages exploration, collaboration, and cultural appreciation through virtual platforms, fostering a diverse and inclusive cultural art experience.
Physical Education
Our physical education program is designed to provide age-appropriate learning experiences. We emphasize enjoyable participation in physical activities through our curriculum and instruction, aiming to equip learners with essential knowledge, positive attitudes, motor skills, behavioral competencies, and the confidence needed to adopt and maintain an active lifestyle.
